Wow, what a ride this winter has been! I think Mother Nature decided to scamper off to the Caribbean, have a margarita or two and leave Old Man Winter in charge. Psst, she really could’ve checked to see who wanted to go with her. Anyway, we’ve been slowly gearing up for the upcoming season. A lot remains the same with a few changes. Not much changing with pick your own. For the farm store we are evaluating what sections are selling and what needs to be changed.
We are also excited to become a partner with Virginia Fresh Match. Just a little info:
Virginia Fresh Match (VFM) is a network of farmers markets, mobile markets, and community food stores across Virginia. VFM locations offer nutrition incentives that double the value of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) dollars spent on fruits and vegetables. With VFM, SNAP shoppers can afford more fruits and vegetables, local farmers earn extra income, and more dollars stay in the local economy. Local Environmental Agriculture Project (LEAP) serves as fiscal sponsor. Learn more at VirginiaFreshMatch.org. How it works: SNAP/EBT customers get 50% off fruits and vegetables at check out with Virginia Fresh Match.
If you didn’t know, we take EBT and also Senior Farm Market Nutrition Program checks (to be replaced by digital this year).
Other random updates: Fill-a-bag will have a slight increase (only the second ever) to $10 bag. We are expanding our cut flowers and herb bouquets. We’re on the look out for maybe adding a food trailer (needs to be moved from the “pipe dreams” category to let’s do this).
As always we love to hear your ideas and wishes. Hopefully “Mom” will be back soon tanned and well rested so we can get on to some Spring Fever. Stop on by, we love to chat!
